Electric bike success proves Dragons’ Den missed bus
Goeco electric bikes in Cappamore, Co Limerick, reportedly operate the country’s only electric bike holidays.
The business was one of the first contestants on the Irish series of Dragons’ Den but could not convince the panel of the potential.
The project promoters were sent on their way with nothing more than a “good luck”.
Marty Mannering, who is behind the business, said electric bikes are the one form of electric transport developing at such a rate that sales are doubling every year.
However, he said, the real problem was not the bikes but which bike to choose. So he invented the Electric bike holiday.
Goeco’s bike holidays were recently featured on the RTÉ Nationwide programme.
He said: “After that, we could not believe the interest — we took in excess of 100 enquiries before 9pm and the show only went out at 7.30pm.
“Calls are coming from all over the world, from America, Australia, Holland and the UK; we have over 40 confirmed bookings at this stage”
An explanation of the whole concept in depth can be seen at www.goeco.ie.
The company is now set to invest in a second location in Co Mayo and is also examining expanding to the Isle of Man.
