THE Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has hit out at a top civil servant at the Department of Finance over his failure to supply it with key documents explaining the decision to guarantee the banking sector in 2008.

The PAC wrote to the secretary general of the department, Kevin Cardiff, yesterday and said it was unacceptable that it has taken him six weeks to release documents it requested.

Committee chairman Bernard Allen said it has given Mr Cardiff until next week to hand over the documents or it will recall him and his officials to account for the delays.
