Safety campaigners call for mandatory breath testing

ROAD safety campaigners are warning that the controversial planned new drink-driving legislation does not to go far enough to save Irish lives.

Moves to breathalyse drivers involved in accidents should be mandatory in all cases under the new law and not discretionary under the plans, argued the families of road traffic victims.

The PARC road safety group wants senators to amend the Road Traffic Bill 2009, as it goes through its final stages in the Houses of the Oireachtas.
