Probe continues after slurry spill wipes out thousands of fish

Investigators suspect an estimated 50,000 gallons of farmyard slurry spilled into the Dooally River near Newcastle West.

Officials from the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board and Limerick County Council are trying to determine the full impact of the spill earlier this week. Thousands of dead trout and a large number of salmon have been found along the devastated stretch of river which is a tributary of the Deel.
