Mourners defy funeral threats

THOUSANDS of mourners yesterday defied loyalist paramilitary intimidation and turned out en masse at the funeral of an Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) murder victim.

More than 2,000 people paid their respects to 43-year-old Bobby Moffett on Belfast’s Shankill Road, despite sinister threats to stay away. Former loyalist prisoner Mr Moffett was gunned down in broad daylight on the same road last Friday lunchtime in an assassination police have blamed on elements within the UVF.
