Emigration key to Live Register fall

THE spectre of large-scale youth emigration has returned with the latest figures showing a decline in the number of people signing on for unemployment benefits despite no evidence of new jobs being created in the economy.

Emigration key to Live Register fall

A total of 432,657 people were on the Live Register in April, with the unemployment rate at 13.4%, the Central Statistics Office (CSO) reported. This was a fall of 500 in the last month.

In the last year the number of people signing on increased by about 50,000.
