Sources close to the Ballymaloe star say Rachel’s US publishers are “very confident” Rachel will appear on Oprah this summer. Her manager and husband, Isaac Allen admitted yesterday they have been in talks with the show’s producers.
Her American publishers are clearly seeing a bright future for her on the other side of the Atlantic and there is a major publicity campaign under way to promote the latest chef from the Allen stable.
Her mother-in-law, Darina Allen and her husband’s grandmother, Myrtle Allen are already highly-acclaimed in the US.
Mother-of-three, Rachel, launched an American version of her book Rachel’s Favourite Food at Home on the Today show on NBC on St Patrick’s Day.
Broadcast rights for the corresponding TV show have also been bought by the American Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) for airing on up to 200 different US channels over the next three years.
The US rights to her other series Bake have been acquired by The Cooking Channel.
Already, Rachel Allen’s TV shows are being shown on the BBC’s Good Food channel and on BBC 1.
Last night, Rachel said “life is a bit mad at the moment”.
With six children and a dog in the back of the car, she was on the way to see her son in a play and then on to Dublin by car due to the cancellation of flights from Irish airports.
“It really is non-stop. It’s go, go, go but I’m doing it all when the kids are in school and then taking time off when they’re off on school holidays,” she laughed.
