Houses, church threatened by gorse fire

A HUGE gorse fire in the Glenflesk area of Co Kerry early yesterday came dangerously close to houses and within a few hundred metres of a church.

Seven fire tenders from Killarney, Kenmare and Tralee fought the blaze for seven hours before leaving the scene at 4am.

Hundreds of spectators watched what resembled a spectacular ring of fire on the hillside.
