Gardaí net €100k of heroin in search
Up to 30 gardaí under Superintendent Ann Marie McMahon and Detective Inspector Tom O’Connor commenced the search operation at 8am and the find was made at about 11am.
The heroin, which was in wrapping, has been sent to the Garda forensic laboratory in Dublin.
The search party included specialist gardaí from Dublin and Templemore College.
Meanwhile, gang figure Wayne Dundon has arrived back in Limerick after a 10-day holiday in Mexico following his recent release from prison.
He served five years and three months for threatening to kill barman Ryan Lee, a cousin of businessman, Roy Collins, who was murdered a year ago, yesterday.
A plaque will be unveiled to his memory at Roxboro Shopping Centre tomorrow near the spot where he was shot and fatally wounded.
A man has been charged with his murder.
Meanwhile, a unit of the Emergency Response Unit has been deployed in Limerick on the orders of Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy.
He took the decision following a meeting with senior garda officers on Thursday at Roxboro Road Garda Station.
Commissioner Murphy said they anticipated “difficult times” ahead in Limerick due to upcoming high profile trials.
