Former senator Willie Farrell dies

FORMER Fianna Fáil Senator Willie Farrell died yesterday at the age of 81 in Sligo General Hospital.

In a political career spanning 35 years, he first joined Sligo County Council in 1967 and served for 30 years. He was elected to the Seanad in 1982 on the Industrial and Commercial Panel, losing his seat in 1983. Re-elected in 1987, he held the seat until he retired in 2002.

Mr Farrell will be laid to rest in Grange, Co Sligo, tomorrow.
