FARMERS who live with a partner for up to three years could see their farms and lands torn apart if the relationship ends, the IFA has warned.

The Irish Farmers’ Association is urging the Government to withdraw part of the Civil Partnership Bill that creates legal liabilities for cohabiting couples.

John Bryan, president, said the bill’s provisions relating to cohabiting couples are not widely known or understood and are creating rights and obligations in an area where there has been little or no public debate.
