Mother put baby’s arm into hot water for throwing toys

AN infant’s right arm was maimed for life when her teenaged mother plunged it into hot water in a temper because the 14 month old was throwing toys.

It emerged at Cork Circuit Criminal Court yesterday that the mother’s comprehension of what she had done was limited due to her psychiatric problems.

“Whether there is full comprehension on the part of the mother is a good question,” prosecution barrister, Donal McCarthy said yesterday.
