Tiger to break cover after three months of silence
In what’s sure to be billed as the biggest return since General Douglas MacArthur, the scandal-scorched sportsman will tomorrow end three months of self-imposed silence.
Last December, the billionaire golfer became embroiled in one of the most salacious scandals ever linked to a sports personality.
After a fender bending bust-up with his wife outside his opulent Florida home, he admitted marital infidelity.
Over a period of weeks after the unTiger-like episode, a string of women from nightclub managers to porn stars came clean – if you’ll pardon the expression – about their torrid affairs with the golfer. Lately, less lurid rumours have been doing the rounds. This time, to the effect that Tiger will compete in the up-coming PGA-sanctioned Tavistock Cup.
Woods is understood to have discussed his possible participation during a meeting this week with Tavistock officials near his home in Isleworth Florida.
The Tavistock Cup, a two-day competition will take place on March 22 and 23 at Woods’ Isleworth course.
Only invited guests are allowed to walk the fairways with the pros, golfers that is.
Pros who have competed in previous Tavistock Cups include Woods’ close friend Mark O’Meara, Sergio Garcia, Retief Goosen and Ian Poulter.
Woods will make a public statement tomorrow to discuss his playing future. He will address “a small gathering of reporters” in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, his manager said.
