Mother pleads: Just tell me where he is
Gardaí have not ruled out a sinister element to the disappearance of Angus “Gussie” Shanahan, aged 20, was last seen at 10.30pm at St Joseph’s Street on February 11, 2000.
His father, Bob, a retired bank manager is distributing thousands of posters across the city today.
Gussie’s mother Nancy said: “I can’t grieve. I can’t move on. My life has been a daily torment for the past 10 years. After 10 years of not knowing, I am sure I could say ‘I forgive you’ to someone who may have harmed my son. Just please tell me where he is. Tell me what happened to him.”
Bob Shanahan said the mental anguish was the most painful. “My mind was open to everything, my view always that I mightn’t like it, but at least I can manage it. Not knowing — it’s very hard to manage it. We are not interested in rumours. We are looking for positive information. Somebody knows and they might have been frightened to come forward in the past but any information will be treated in the strictest confidence.”
