Lee insists he told FG leader before media

GEORGE LEE has strongly rejected claims by his former boss Enda Kenny that he issued a media statement to announce his resignation before telling the Fine Gael leader.

When Mr Kenny finally broke his silence on the issue yesterday, more than 24 hours after Mr Lee dropped the bombshell, he said he was “saddened” by the way he found out.

“George said he would ring me, he did at 12:20 approximately. I called him back within two minutes and he told me he had signed a letter and left it to the clerk of the Dáil and the media had been notified.
