Will the real Enda please step forward

ENDA KENNY’S tragedy is that he is a gentleman politician in an age of thuggery.

While not quite an analogue performer in a digital era, Mr Kenny’s mass market public image is nonetheless depleted by the very strain of old-world charm which makes him such a hit on a one-to-one basis.

His immediate reaction to the self-inflicted crisis over George Lee was to announce that from now on he would suddenly be himself, which begs the question who exactly has the Fine Gael leader been pretending to be over the past eight years – Forrest Gump crossed with Daniel O’Donnell?
