TDs and Senators to play greater role in bank inquiry

TDs and Senators will play a greater role in the early stages of the banking inquiry than has been presented by the Government, according to Green Party Senator, Dan Boyle, who threatened to resign as the party’s Finance spokesperson over the Government’s handling of the issues.

Senator Boyle said his party leader, Environment Minister John Gormley, talked him out of standing down from his position but dismissed suggestions that his resignation would collapse the Government as “a step too far”.

He was “frustrated” that the inquiry was presented to the public as being behind closed doors while it was agreed that an Oireachtas Committee will work on the “scoping report” with the Governor of the Central bank.
