FURTHER pay cuts for public sector workers are not being ruled out, but Tánaiste Mary Coughlan denied claims the Government is involved in a “vulgar campaign of abuse” against public servants.

Fianna Fáil backbenchers said there is “huge concern” in the party that lower-paid public servants will suffer more severe cuts to their wages than their more senior, higher-paid colleagues.

The issue will be “top of the agenda” when the parliamentary party meet Finance Minister Brian Lenihan next week to discuss the Finance Bill giving legal effect to the budget.
