HUNDREDS of rural dwellers could lose their public bin collection service under local authority proposals designed to eliminate overtime levels.

The news emerged last night after Cork County Council warned its waste collection service is at a critical point and its future is in serious doubt unless “cost cutting and operational changes are implemented”.

The warning came as talks continue between council management and unions about the restructuring of the council’s waste collection routes.
