HSE: No prosecutions for failing to return medical card

THE HSE has confirmed that it has yet to prosecute any person deemed ineligible for a medical card because of new income thresholds introduced last year for failing to return their card.

It emerged last week that almost half of people over the age of 70 who became ineligible for a medical card last year had still not returned the card.

The HSE said that anyone in such a situation may have to face the full cost of any medical treatment they undergo.
