Warning fire logs washed ashore from lost containers may explode

THE Coast Guard has warned the public against collecting potentially dangerous fire logs which are washing up on beaches along the south-east.

They may be tainted with a hazardous chemical and could explode if lit, a spokesperson said last night.

“We understand that some people could see this as an opportunity, but we would strongly urge people not to go within 100 metres of this material and to report it to the authorities by dialing 999 and 112,” she said.
