TAOISEACH Brian Cowen has been challenged to give evidence at an inquiry into the banking crisis.

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny said such an inquiry must establish how the relationship between politics, banking and the construction industry contributed to the financial collapse.

“The Taoiseach was the Minister for Finance for a number of years before the situation arose. I’m quite sure that the Taoiseach, as the leader of the country, would be interested in having this sorted out in everybody’s interest,” he said.
