Council cuts bin charges by 23%

FACED with “aggressive” competition from private waste collectors, Kerry County Council has been forced to slash its bin charges by 23% for 2010.

A new pricing structure is being introduced which will result in a charge of €260 per house, a drop of €80 on the 2009 charge.

County manager Tom Curran said the council needed to attract more customers if it was to stay in the waste collection business.
