HSE nursing home criticised for abuse allegations inquiry

THE Health Service Executive has pledged to ensure that any future allegations of elder abuse will be dealt with “robustly” after a report found it had failed to protect residents of a Co Meath nursing home.

The HSE also confirmed that the nurse at the centre of the abuse allegations remains on leave pending investigation.

Management at St Joseph’s Community Nursing Unit in Trim, Co Meath, were castigated by inspectors of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) for “serious shortcomings” in investigating abuse allegations.
