ENDA Kenny last night admitted that his hopes for a snap general election had slipped away.

The Fine Gael leader said the prospect of an early Dáil poll was now becoming more remote after the Government managed to pass its NAMA and Budget legislation through the Oireachtas.

However, Mr Kenny turned up the heat on the Government over its foot-dragging on setting up a wide-ranging inquiry into how the banking crisis brought the Irish economy to the brink of collapse.
