THE CABINET has been urged to deploy the army to help deliver emergency water supplies to thousands of householders, after claims some areas have been without water since Christmas Day.

As plunging temperatures led to homes facing frozen pipes and broken mains across the country, Fine Gael councillor Deirdre Forde said it was time for emergency action to be taken.

According to the Cork-based representative, residents in large suburbs throughout the city have been without water for the past fortnight as a direct result of the winter weather.
