A Swedish animal charity has rescued some dogs from Ireland, reports Donald Mahoney in Sweden

Faraway haven for rescued dogs

ON a cold night on the fringes of Arlanda Airport outside Stockholm, a freight handler pushes a cart carrying extremely fragile cargo. Four puppies and two older dogs whimper from inside their kennel crate.

They have just made the 1,600km journey from Dublin to Sweden. It is a strange journey for a dog to make, but no longer an uncommon one.
