Talks on unpaid public sector leave resume today

TALKS on whether unpaid leave in the public sector can contribute enough to the Government’s need for €1.3bn in savings in 2010 will resume this morning.

Shortly after 10pm last night the talks with the Department of Finance adjourned for all sectors apart from Health.

For the previous eight hours the Department of Finance had been meeting representatives of all sectors of the public service to see whether up to 14 days of unpaid leave was feasible both in terms of savings that this could yield and in practice.
