AER LINGUS and its pilots will appear before an Oireachtas transport committee in the morning following a claim by the pilots that the company planned to get rid of workers and rehire them on inferior terms and conditions.

In letters sent to TDs the pilots say Aer Lingus management’s €97m per-year cost-saving plan “Greenfield,” which it has created in response to the crisis in the aviation industry, is “opportunistic and disproportionate”.

Last month, Aer Lingus announced Greenfield would include savings from staff costs totalling €74m, involving 676 redundancies, pay cuts, changes in work practices and new pension arrangements.
