People on dole ‘should sweep the streets’
Cllr Kevin Kiely said: “The days of giving people money for nothing are gone. That was OK in the days of the Celtic Tiger, but now the country is going broke.
“There needs to be a whole review of the dole and we should be encouraging people on the dole to get out into the community and get actively involved in various projects. They could do community work, they could do work for local authorities, they could sweep the street and paint the homes of elderly people.”
Meanwhile, the Limerick Regeneration Agency will be anxiously waiting to see how they fare in theDecember budget.
And the head of the Dell task force Denis Brosnan has stated that their work will be a waste of time, if the Government does not act on their recommendations which have been sent to members of the cabinet.
Tánaiste Mary Coughlan met with Mr Brosnan last Friday in Limerick and said afterwards: “It is my earnest hope we can finalise the work of the task force.”
