Lord mayor pays tribute to top garda ahead of transfer to south-east region
Kevin Ludlow served as both a chief superintendent and assistant commissioner in Cork for the past four-and-a-half years.
Lord Mayor Cllr Dara Murphy said during that time Asst Comm Ludlow had been responsible for a number of policing initiatives which had significantly benefited the people of the city.
“You have helped make Cork a safer place,” Cllr Murphy said as he presented Mr Ludlow with a piece of Cork crystal to mark his departure from the region.
The lord mayor said the relationship between the gardaí and City Hall was excellent and could only benefit the law-abiding community as a whole.
Asst Comm Ludlow said he received a welcome when he came to Cork on March 1, 2005 “which was second to none”.
He said the strides made couldn’t have been achieved without the excellent co-operation between a number of different organisations and the dedication and professionalism of his colleagues.
Speaking on behalf of the gardaí, Chief Supt Kieran McGann said Asst Comm Ludlow had shown great leadership and his “strong presence” had brought major benefits to the region’s policing.
The event proved to be somewhat of a baton hand-over as well as it was attended by Asst Comm Willie Keane, who replaces Mr Ludlow as the top garda in the southern region.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge. I know a lot of garda personnel within the region and have previously served as chief superintendent in Kerry and Limerick,” Asst Comm Keane said.
