Opposition condemn NAMA chief’s pay deal being ‘cloaked in secrecy’

THE pay deal for the top boss of NAMA will be “cloaked in secrecy” the opposition claimed last night after Finance Minister Brian Lenihan confirmed details of the salary and bonuses paid to the agency’s chief executive will not be made public.

The position is likely to carry one of the highest ever salaries in the public service, but Mr Lenihan said the post will not be advertised and the remuneration for the position will not be disclosed.

During a debate on the setting up of the agency yesterday, Mr Lenihan admitted that the process of transferring loans from banks to NAMA might not begin until January, missing the original deadline of Christmas.
