Couple lose fight with State in grant dispute

THE State won its High Court appeal following its refusal to pay the first-time buyer’s grant to a young couple.

However, Don and Tara Ellis escaped a potentially crippling legal bill after lawyers for the State sought and were awarded circuit court costs only.

The couple had feared they could lose their house if the ruling and costs went against them but still face a legal bill of up to €15,000.
