Arrests expected over killing
Barry Walsh, 22, an apprentice plumber from Parklands in Castleknock, died on Tuesday having been on a life support machine since the incident in the early hours of Sunday.
He was punched in the head and then kicked as he lay on the ground following an argument with a group of people near the Bar Code nightclub in Clontarf at around 3.30am on Sunday.
Yesterday, Mr Walsh’s grieving family asked for privacy, while gardaí said they are satisfied with the rate of progress in their investigations.
One young man from the north inner city has already been interviewed after he voluntarily spoke to gardaí.
Gardaí are looking for witnesses to the attack to come forward and have set up an incident room in Clontarf Garda Station.
They also issued a description of the man they want to question as part of their inquiries. The man they wish to speak with is described as being 5ft 10in tall, with dark hair and tanned skin, aged in his early 20s.
Meanwhile, the parish chaplain in Laurel Lodge where Barry lived described the young man as “heroic” for being an organ donor.
Fr Daniel O’Mahony also paid tribute to Barry’s family and friends for the support they have given each other since the attack.
Barry’s father, Bernard, is a supermarket manager and his mother, Ena, is from near Macroom in Co Cork. He also has a younger brother, Adam.
“They have had fantastic support from Barry’s friends,” Fr O’Mahony said, adding that the local community had been pulling together to help the family.
No funeral arrangements are yet in place for Mr Walsh.
