THE health service is contributing up to €20 million yearly on rented properties in Limerick city and county.

Up to 3,000 family homes in the city and county are being rented with the support of the HSE, it emerged yesterday.

Fianna Fáil’s Niall Collins yesterday called for the HSE-administered rent allowance scheme to be scrapped. The Limerick TD claimed “a huge amount of antisocial behaviour is now emanating from houses rented to people who are getting rent allowance funding from the HSE”.
