GOVERNMENT bodies at the heart of a controversial trade mission to India have defended the €250,000 cost of the six-day trip.

The bodies concerned said the return received from links with the Indian economy justified the five- star treatment involved.

The 2006 trade mission to India was led by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern.
