THE abolition of expenses for TDs and senators would do little to help solve the economic crisis, Finance Minister Brian Lenihan has said.

He reiterated that the Oireachtas expenses system would be reformed shortly, but stressed that the issue had to be seen in perspective.

“This country faces a very serious fiscal crisis. The abolition of Oireachtas expenses wouldn’t solve that crisis in any degree. So we need to focus on the real issues facing this country.
