IRISH motorists could see the country’s first electric car-charging points next year as the Government progresses its plan to make the country a pioneer in the field of electric vehicles.

Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) and the Department of Energy has robustly defended the Government’s target of having 250,000 electric cars on the road by 2020 after the head of research at Ford described recently them as “unrealistic”.

In the coming months, the Department of Energy is due to unveil its plan for electric vehicles and Minister Eamon Ryan will seek greater incentives for electric vehicles in the budget.
