Prisoner dies after collapse

AN investigation was under way last night into the death of a prisoner found collapsed in his cell in the North.

John Anthony Deery, aged 50, who was described as “vulnerable” had been in Maghaberry Prison, near Lisburn, Co Antrim.

Medical staff tried to resuscitate him when they were called to his cell at the jail’s healthcare facility last night but he died this afternoon in Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital where he had been on a life support machine.
