Teenager arrested after fatal crash

A MAN has been arrested after a twin was killed in a hit-and-run accident yesterday just minutes after leaving friends at a party.

Robert Condon, 21, from Dungourney in east Cork, was walking on the outskirts of Kinsale town at about 3am when he was struck by a vehicle which failed to stop.

He was spotted by a passing motorist at about 3.10am lying on the road at Pewterhole Cross, a crossroads about a kilometre outside the town on the Kinsale to Cork road.

He had suffered extensive head and internal injuries, but was alive.

Gardaí later discovered a crashed car abandoned about two kilometres from Pewterhole Cross. It had struck a wall on a small road just off the main Cork to Kinsale road. They traced its owner to an address in the Carrigaline area and moved quickly to arrest an 18-year-old man on suspicion of drink driving. He was taken to Togher Garda Station where a sample of his blood was taken.

He was subsequently released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
