THE Kyoto Protocol set Ireland’s target for greenhouse gas emissions at 13% higher than its 1990 level – yet in 2006 it was 24.5% higher.

While the CSO statistics give figures for 2007, they do not compare those figures with other countries in 2007.

However, in 2006, Ireland’s level, 12.3% higher than the recommended Kyoto Protocol level, was the fifth highest in the EU.
