A YOUNG woman from the west of Ireland has become the country’s first swine flu fatality.

The woman, who had serious underlying medical problems, died in Tallaght Hospital yesterday afternoon.

She is the first person in the Republic to die of the virus since the first cases emerged in this country in May. A man from the North died last week after contracting the virus.
