Clash makes its mark in song

IT may not make it to number one in the charts, but the minnows who are taking on one of the world’s greatest soccer teams are hoping their song will prove a bit of a hit.

Clash makes its mark in song

To commemorate their momentous clash with Liverpool on August 6, Dunmanway Town XI have recorded a commemorative single entitled The ’Pool Are On The Way.

The idea came from one of the local side’s committee, Sean O’Sullivan, who contacted well-known singer-songwriter Tim O’Riordan of Natural Gas.

Tim recorded the Langer song which became an instant hit all over the country in 2004.

It spent four weeks at number one and earned Tim a double platinum disc.

His comical lyrics for the Dunmanway team’s song make references to giving up the beer to face the Scousers and getting rub-downs with poitín.

The lyrics also suggest they’ll be no prawns on the menu for supporters – a reference to Roy Keane’s famous attack on some Manchester United fans’ tastes.

Instead they sing “bacon and cabbage will have to do, along Murphy’s Stout and Irish stew”.

Dunmanway team manager John Buckley said the side recorded the single at Satellite Studios in Ballincollig earlier this week.

Tim O’Riordan is the lead singer and the chorus is sung by the Dunmanway squad.

The CDs are presently being produced as well as special covers.

“We hope to launch the CD before this weekend. It will be distributed to all good music shops and SuperValu outlets throughout Cork,” said Mr Buckley.

Part of the profits will go to providing further facilities for the small west Cork club.
