ONE of Limerick’s longest established shops which faced closure with the introduction of a new law on the sale of tobacco tomorrow is set to puff on thanks to a special exemption.

Cahill’s Tobacco and Snuff shop, established in 1870, is one of only five tobacconists in the country which have been given an exemption from the new law which prevents the display of cigarettes and all smoking products from July 1.

Owner Eleanor Purcell said: “If we could not display our cigars and cigarettes we would have been forced to close.
