NEGOTIATIONS on the Irish guarantees for the Lisbon Treaty were at an extremely delicate stage last night with diplomats saying the final outcome was unpredictable.

Foreign Affairs Minister Micheál Martin said it was a matter of balancing the concerns of the other 26 countries and much was now down to the lawyers.

“All countries have assured us of their support and we are confident that the discussions going on now will result in an outcome acceptable to all,” he said.
