THE watershed jailing of former lobbyist Frank Dunlop for corruption was met with muted response within political circles.

In the Dáil, Labour Party leader Eamon Gilmore told Taoiseach Brian Cowen the jailing of Dunlop had shown the importance of a private member’s bill proposed by Deputy Brendan Howlin which sought to ensure all lobbyists were registered.

Little was said by the two parties who were implicated in the Dunlop bribery scandal, Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael. Fianna Fáil, who had five former councillors and one current one named on Dunlop’s charge sheets, said the Circuit Criminal Court had done its job.
