Concern over rural policing sparks call for Garda action

THERE is solid evidence that crimes against rural households are likely to increase during an economic recession.

Irish Rural Link (IRL) said it had been contacted by many of the 300 rural community groups it represents since reports of garda station closures first emerged some weeks ago.

The future of stations and plans for rural policing continues to be a matter of concern for the communities, with much confusion over one-man stations.
