FOREIGN Affairs Minister Micheál Martin has said US proposals to crack down on tax havens “should not pose any threat” to Irish interests.

Earlier this week, the Obama administration released a memo citing Ireland as one of three small, low-tax countries which, between them, accounted for almost one-third of all foreign profits reported by US corporations in a single year.

The implication seemed clear: The US wanted to crack down on Ireland in its battle against tax havens.
