THE chief civil servant at the Department of Finance has denied his staff should accept part of the blame for the collapse of the country’s financial sector.

Secretary general David Doyle said no expert in the world predicted the extent of the downturn and his staff worked from the best information available.

Pressed by Labour party deputy Tommy Broughan, Mr Doyle refused to accept his department had let the country down.
