Tickets like gold — but there’s one in a million

HEN’S teeth and rocking horse droppings might be rare, but tickets for the weekend’s clash of rugby titans Munster and Leinster at Croke Park are scarcer still.

Tickets like gold — but there’s one in a million

But one lucky ticket-holder will stand out from the crowd, as the millionth fan to pass the turnstiles this season is to get the full VIP treatment.

Both clubs have reported an almost unprecedented demand for tickets, best illustrated when 5,000 went on general sale and sold out in 30 seconds.

As for a number of eBay offers, the site sold a pair of Cusack Stand tickets having quoted a starting bid of €1,500.

Among the 82,300 fans attending Saturday’s semi-final, one will receive VIP pampering with the distinction of being the millionth fan to watch the Heineken Cup action live this season — the first time the seven-figure barrier has been broken.

The 76 matches have been watched by 981,946 fans and No 1,000,000 and a guest will be upgraded to full VIP hospitality for the contest, which is set to break the world record attendance of 81,600 for a club rugby match.

The clubs have advised those making the trip to arrive early not only to be in with a chance of being the lucky one millionth, but to enjoy the build-up of the special occasion that will determine which province goes through to the 14th Heineken Cup final in Edinburgh on Saturday, May 23.

Only official tickets printed on ERC Heineken Cup and Ticketmaster ticket stock will be accepted and “any tickets printed by customers using the ‘Print@Home TicketFast’ system will not be valid.

These customers have been contacted by Ticketmaster and have been issued with official match tickets, the organisers stated.
